Meet our inspiring subject: an 89-year-old lady who, despite facing health and personal challenges, has always been passionate about staying active. But even with activities like swimming, walking, and regular gym visits, she faced unexpected weight gain, driving her to seek assistance from Health and Wellbeing.

Problem Statement:

Three years ago, a mini stroke led her to start blood pressure medication, resulting in weight gain. This, coupled with a significant lifestyle shift post the loss of her husband, saw her gravitate towards convenience foods. The ease of these foods belied their impact, causing her further weight gain and distancing her from her once-cherished activity: cooking.

Solution

Understanding the unique challenges and needs of our subject, Health and Wellbeing crafted a dual approach. Not only did we focus on sustainable weight loss strategies, but we also delved deep into rekindling her love for cooking. Through our sessions, we emphasised the importance of meal planning, introduced her to techniques for preparing and freezing meals for one, and most importantly, reignited the joy she once found in cooking.

Results:

The results were both heartening and tangible. She saw a weight reduction from 63kg to 59kg. But beyond the numbers, it was the renewed confidence and the sparkle in her eyes when she talked about her latest recipe or the meal she’d prepared that truly measured our success.
